Who It’s For

Why Do This Course

Find Out Before You Commit

Seventy hours tells you if the subject holds you. A degree is a long way to go on a hunch.

Useful In Support Work Now

Behaviour, motivation and development show up daily in youth, care and community roles.

Taught By People With The Degrees

The tutors here hold psychology degrees and have taught the subject before.

Where The Skills Fit

Where These Skills Could Take You

Support work across youth, disability, care and community leans on these ideas. Employers there care about how you handle people. The day is practical: routines, chats, records, and knowing when to call someone in.

Youth Support Worker

Structured support for young people in a service.

Residential Care Assistant

Daily care and routine in a home setting.

Community Support Worker

Helping people manage life at home.

Learning Support Assistant

Backing up teachers with individual students.

Wellbeing Programme Facilitator (Trainee)

Running sessions under supervision.

Roles where these skills are useful, not promised outcomes. Every role is different, and some need more study or experience. Psychology, counselling and mental health practice are registered fields with their own accredited study routes, and this introduction does not lead to registration.

Good to Know

Common Questions

Do I need any background in this?

No. It is built as a starting point for people with no prior study in the area.

What does it cost each week?

From $29 a week on a plan, with no deposit and no credit check. Enquire for current pricing.

How long does it take?

About 70 hours of study, with six months of access.

Will this make me a psychologist?

No, and that is worth saying plainly. What it gives you is the whole introductory map of the subject, for a fraction of what a degree costs in time and money. A lot of people take exactly this to work out whether the long road is worth walking, and it is useful in support work either way.

Does it count toward a degree?

No, it carries no university credit. It does open the college's own psychology and counselling pathway. The ground is much the same as a first year intro.

Who teaches it?

Tutors with psychology qualifications, including a Master of Science in Psychology and a former university teaching assistant.

Is this course accredited?

It carries a Certificate of Achievement with CPD credits, and the college is an ICOES accredited centre with Official Accreditation from the CPD Standards Office. That is accreditation for professional development. It is not NZQA accredited, so it is not a national qualification. Those are different things, and for testing an interest in psychology this one is the cheap way in.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. A 10-Day Money Back Guarantee runs from enrolment.
